Hello all, Kyle Goodwin from Goodwin Glass put together this quick video that shows the process he takes to sandcarve beautiful glass art.
It shows how he created an octopus carving in glass by first:
- Drawing a rough thumbnail sketch on a piece of paper for the client.
- Then he draws out the design by hand and by looking at a small model octopus.
- Cutting out: he says he uses both a straight blade and a swivel blade.
- Sandblast pulled stencils piece in stages
Thank you, Kyle for sharing this quick video!

Wow that was exceptionally informative on the octopus design beautiful work loved the finished piece thank you so much for the detailed info
Would be great if some of the actual sand carving process was shown
David, I try and add some of the sandblasting but it’s obviously very messy and gets really dusty/cloudy in the booth. I put my camera in a ziploc bag to try and film some but it can last only so long like that, and I can’t really have anyone stand in there with me
Kyle, I was thinking the same thing. I was actually planning on using my old iphone that I don’t use to record sandblasting projects instead of messing up a good camera.
very good and very realistic
Fantastic work. And Im impressed that you were free hand drawing directly on the resist. I also love the backlight behind the panel. I always want more light in my booth and try to go for a reflection so I can see where and how deep I have sandblasted. When I have large pieces/panels I set up a temporary booth outside. Do you use aluminum oxide or silica ?
Thank you for sharing. In these hard times we do need help from professionals to servive.
