Hello all, I just did a recent test of painting the outside of a glass candle container using stencils and our glass paint stains. This post is just to show the results and give ideas. The steps I did were as below:
1. Make Candle from Wine Bottle
In the first step, I actually cut an empty wine bottle and turned it into a candle by pouring my own wax/fragrance. I have talked about it in the past and we offer the complete kit on Amazon here. All the instructions and supplies are included.
Obviously, you can just use an candle purchased at the store also.
2. Apply a Reusable Stencil
We carry a whole bunch of reusable adhesive-backed stencils that are repositionable. For this project to test, I used a flower stencil sheet that was laying around. I figured flowers would require a lot of colors so you can see the wide range of brilliant colors.
Be sure that you clean the glass well before applying the stencil.
3. Brush on the Glass Paint
Then I just used a brush to apply the paints within the stencil. It is best to try not to overlap the paint onto the actual stencil because that can increase the likelihood of the paint pulling up with the stencil.
You can see our glass paint on Amazon here.
4. Remove Stencil & Clean
The rinse the paint off the stencil and place it back on the carrier sheet. Allow the paint on the glass candle to dry.
5. Clean up Glass Paint Seepage
As you can see from my project, you may still have some areas where the paint went seeped under the stencil. In cases like this, you can use a razor blade or hobby knife to scratch those areas to correct them.

Please let me know if you have any questions in the comment section.
Also, with Christmas coming up, we actually produced a new bottle cutting/candle making kit that includes Christmas stencils. It is great for the holidays! You can then etch the stencil or paint those Christmas designs.
