Hello all, a gal by the name Patti recently sent me the below video and asked me to share it to see if there is anyone that knows any information about these two large flamingo sandcarved glass art pieces framed within a wood stand/shelf.
She stated the below about this piece:
- Mid-century etched art
- Both are signed by what looks like an artist named “Eslinger”.
- Artist was from California and has passed away
- Made into solid oak
Have you heard of this artist or have a rough estimate of how much these would be worth?
Even if you don’t know anything about this artist, please leave a comment below on how much you would appraise these sandcarvings.
Great Sandcarving Idea
I’d also like to point out that this is a great sandcarving project idea. This piece combines the below:
- Multi-stage sandcarving of a beautiful outdoors envirnoment which is a great home decor item.
- Uses LED lights on the edge to help light up the sandcarved art.
- Uses wood oak display which can be a great shelf for the home.

They are beautiful. I have been sandblasting for 30 years and live in Hawaii. I also have made some lightboxes which come out very beautiful. The new technologies of LED are amazing.
I am a long time glass etcher in California since 1980, and have met many glass etchers through my business. I have long known of TWO California glass etchers with the last name of ESLINGER. One was Jack Eslinger and worked out of his shop in COSTA MESA, CA. He etched both large and small glass items and was quite skilled. He was retired for some years now and may still be living. The other ESLINGER was a glass etcher in BAKERSFIELD, CA. who has passed away. He did large amounts of etched and glue chipped glass for restaurants and also Vegas casinos. I would probably have to see better photos of this edge lit glass to see if there are any hints of the etching skill to make a choice as to which ESLINGER was the artist.
@ Patrick, thanks for this update. This video was the only thing Patti gave to me. Not sure if she still has the etched glass.
These were done by my dad, Jack Eslinger, who passed away five years ago.
