Rock Sandblasting Ideas & Selling Places

Posted on February 22, 2018 by Eric Robert Posted in Blog Content, Sandcarving Examples 7 Comments

In this post, we are featuring Dominique from Carving Marvin and their sandblasted rock projects. She replied to our email newsletter about engraving large rocks with ways to transport them. She sent in these photos of her engraved rocks of all sizes and was happy to be featured!

Here is a view of an assortment of great ideas such as welcome rocks, pet memorials, and address markers with animal designs.

The below photo shows Dominique with her display of rocks at a show. This reminds me of when I helped out a small business selling these by setting up a booth which brings up the discussion of places to showcase these.

rock sandblasting flea markets

Many people might not realize it, but there are many different places around most cities that you can showcase and sell items like these rocks or even glass etchings. You can sell these like we did in the rock blasting business with the below ideas:

  • Flea Markets– many cities have flea markets. It usually isn’t too expensive either but you will have to test this out to see if the sales potential is large enough for it to be worth the cost & time. One of the flea markets in my city has outside vendor fees starting at $18 per day and indoor fees starting at $43 for the whole weekend. One rock sell should be able to cover the cost for the whole weekend.
  • Craft Shows– these are also larger than people might think. Many high schools, elementary schools, community centers, churches and small towns have these. There are dozens of these around my city every year. If you search for them, you might find a lot of selling opportunities- so much that you may have one to go to every weekend. In my opinion, these are actually better than flea markets since the market base isn’t mostly budget/value buyers.

Please leave some comments below for Dominique. She said the her projects are listed on Facebook under Carving Marvin.

@ Kobus, wow that is quite a bit more. I guess it will vary by location in the US as well. Interesting to hear the flea market costs of other folks around the states too.

Do you weed the mat before you put it on the rock or after

@ Jeff, I am not sure if she is monitoring comments, but most of us weed the stencil beforehand. Thanks
